UPDATE: Although no public announcement has been made by Waterbean Coffee, Vegan FTA supporters have visited several Waterbean Coffee locations to confirm that the coffee chain has ended its non-dairy milk upcharge.   

Starbucks, Dunkin’, and Peet’s Coffee are just a few of the coffee chains that have recently dropped the non-dairy milk upcharge, thanks to the collective efforts of organizations, advocates, and consumers! Now, please urge Waterbean Coffee to follow suit!

Waterbean Coffee is a North Carolina-based chain that charges up to 75 cents extra for non-dairy milks. So, why is this an issue?

Dairy production is cruel to animals and significantly impacts the environment. A powerful way to take a stand for animals and the planet is by choosing plant milks, like oat, almond, or soy milk. Many consider charging extra for these non-dairy options to be discriminatory against certain groups of people, such as vegans and populations with a high prevalence of lactose intolerance. In short, charging extra for non-dairy milks creates a financial barrier between compassionate, sustainable, and inclusive options and the consumers who need them.
